thursday, 04.15

well...came into work and found out durin' the mornin' meetin' that we have photos taken today. good thing i sorta dressed up a bit.

regular classes started today but all l did was give my self introduction. kinda tirin' when you're sayin' the same stuff every hour and it's worse when there isn't really any response from the students. i found out later from sekiguchi sensei that last year, they had 3 different alts!?! holy crap...that must've sucked!

was really tired @ school for some reason. had to keep gettin' fresh air or splash water on my face. i'm not quite at the point where i can actually take a nap @ my desk yet. ; (

got a text from tomo that she was sick, so we cancelled dinner. i ended up cookin' dinner and preparin' my bento for school the next day.

played some more of pandora tomorrow and then went to bed.

friday, 04.16

class today was more self intros. durin' my free time, all i've been doin' is workin' on my animated slideshow with all the pics from when don, jookie, jamie and burr came out. imovie is a pretty koo program, tons of features but yet so easy to use. hope to have it done by the end of next week.

durin' the end of the day, decided to check out the vball team. i was pretty surprised that some of the girls can really swing! while i was watchin', miura sensei comes of to me and asks if i want to play table tennis (half the gym is vball, the other half is for the table tennis team) i politely refused...twice but the third time, i just said ok, so that he would stop askin' me. got me a double sided paddle and went to work on these two students. though i haven't played since maybe halloween, the skills were really rusty but i don't think i was playin' against the top guys cuz i was workin' them. hopefully next week i'll be able to start up vball. gotta strengthen my shoulder.

went to ikko just to say hi. saw yuko san, ryuko san, chi mama and tamaki chan. chilled for like 15-20 min, then headed out to matsudo to meet up with nao. had dinner @ shoya, which i haven't been to in about a year. food was aite, not great but not bad either.

saturday, 04.17

woke up and did some laundry. made brunch which consisted of: natto, cucumber salad w/miso sesame dressin', left over stir fry and rice. @ 1315, went to the station to go to takane community center for an english club. met up with kato san @ the station and we walked to the center. got our room, set up the tables and chairs and slowly, people started arrivin'. it was a really casual kind of class, did a very brief introduction and heard everyone's introduction too. we talked about the japanese school system, livin' in japan as a foreigner and travelin'. got 5000yen for 90 min...not too bad for just talkin'.

went home and packed up some stuff and headed to ikko for a snack and drink. then headed to shibuya to meet up with my buddy jeffrey (worked together back @ prima, now he lives in sf and works for ubisoft) we walked around a bit before finally gettin' to watami which was totally packed. they were cleanin' up a party of 38 ppl!?! we had some good food and drinks. talked about pandora tomorrow and he told me that he's the one who arranged the deal with sony ericsson to have product placement in the game. kinda funny cuz i just got to that part the day before where they pull out the phone! finished up dinner and i treated much to the dislike of jeffrey but i pulled out the "who's country are you in? who's visitin' who? who's on vacation?"....works everytime.

came home and crashed out...

sunday, 04.18: picnic @ tamagawa

woke up and decided to cut my hair.

went to tsudanuma to meet up with mikie and junko. our route to tamagawa was: sobu rapid to shinagawa, yamanote to shibuya, toyoko to tamagawa. met up with mike @ the exit and later with scott, rick and mika. this picnic was thrown by scott and yasuko's english school (education station) but there were only 2 students that came, mutsuko and chiaki, both of whom i have met before. so the rest of the people were friends of friends of friends, etc...

what made the day was that the weather was beautiful. it was warm with a nice cool breeze. there was this big 'ol reggae concert/bbq on da other side of the river. it was loud enough to hear the beats which was nice cuz we had none. you could also take a boat on da river and just chill. we played catch, kicked a soccer ball around and just kicked it.

they ordered like 3 pizzas, rick and i both put in 1000yen, but rick only got some crust while i didn't even get a piece!? oh well, rick said that it was our donation to education station ; b

mike brought some stuff he got from his care package: sour chewy starburst and flamin' hot cheetos which surprised many people with.

it was kinda funny to hear from junko and mikie about how mike and i spoke to each other. never really analyzed how i speak to peeps from back home until now. but i find that it's the same as japanese ppl talk to each other, with slang and very fast. the way i speak english to japanese ppl is of course different to the way i speak to a native english speaker, especially one from california.

afterwards, mikie, junko and i had dinner @ saizeriya (an italian restaurant, a chain, really cheap). it was pretty good, i've only been there maybe 1 or 2 times before. had some pretty good chicken, hamburger, corn and fries with some gravy and garlic rice and also drink bar for a measly 860yen! i love these restaurants, cheap and good!

we then walked to the station, mikie biked home and junko and i took the train.

came home, finished up the level that i was in the middle of in pandora tomorrow and then went to sleep.

monday, 04.19

for first period, had to teach the class by myself for the last 20 min. at my old school, it wouldn't have been problem, but at this school, it's a lot more difficult. i kno, it's still very early. i need to be more optimistic i guess. i kinda don't remember how long it took to me to get used to my old school.

got all my visual aids done while i was @ school as well as preparation for this week's classes.

went to ikko, had a superfeast: saba, fresh vegetables with miso/sesame dressing, seri tenpura, hyako, miso soup and 6 oolong hi's. came home and crashed.

tuesday, 04.20

man, it was hot today. hit high 70s, low 80s!

2nd day @ takane higashi elementary. had five classes. these kids are something. they say the craziest things and they're pretty easy to understand cuz they haven't learned all the slang the junior high students say yet.

durin' the first recess, hung out around the pink sakura i chatted with all these 3rd grade girls. they were all into jump rope and stuff. it's so nice to see such innocent kids who haven't been tarnished yet with all the stuff japan has to offer. however, they surprised me with some of the stuff they said to me after they were more comfortable with me.

for school lunch, i ate with 3-1 and it's kinda interestin' havin' the school lunch brought to you on carts to each room. one kid gave me a drawin' of a car while this other kid kept showin' me his drawings of all these flags. after lunch, went out to the playground and was swarmed by all these 6th graders. they asked me if i wanted to play tag, the kind where the person who is 'it', gets a team member when he/she tags somebody. then it turned into freeze tag sometime w/o my knowledge. durin' tag, these two 6th grade girls got my attention and told me that i looked like a kuma (bear) i have no idea how that came up, maybe cuz of my hair. but boy, it sure was natsukashii (memorable) playin' tag, it's probably been since junior high the last time i played! after lunch recess, had cleanin' so i went outside to help. i noticed that they had this animal pen in the yard and went to go check out what was in there. there was this beautiful peacock with it's feathers all flexed. it was crazy and i think it got mad at me cuz it was totally rufflin' its feathers. after cleanin', had a little time to wash up and then it was off to my last class which would be with all the parents observing.

it went rather well, didn't really, or didn't try to notice all the parents in there. the bad thing was that my lesson went too fast, so i had to come up with stuff to do for the final 10 min. but in the end, it worked out.

stuck around after school, learned a new version of paper, rock, scissors from these two girls then headed back to the teacher's room and finished my lesson plan for next week. had to help kamazuka sensei bring a metal locker to the 4th floor and also had to get this bird out of the students' entryway. went to check out the gym and saw that they drilled lower baskets into the regulation baskets. kinda weird. i did take a ball and shot around a bit, gettin' my taps in. came home (it was 85 degrees in my apartment!?!), stopped off @ matsukiyo for some groceries and then came home and did some laundry and cleaned up a bit.

now i'm gonna call it a night.

kaz out...
